"A Passion Born Out of Compassion"

A single glance from her gentle yet sorrowful eyes was all it took… Reaching out, my heart ached for the injured dog. I rushed her to the vet, where she was declared paralyzed in the rear limbs – a cruel consequence of a hit-and-run. Faced with an uncertain future, I brought her home, and that is how “Rani” came into our lives. This was just one case, but there is so much work to be done to provide a caring and survival home for several such stray animals. And that’s where a spark ignited a lifelong passion.

Growing up in Mumbai, my childhood memories brim with love for animals. From feeding the cats in our building after school to rescuing kittens like Blackie and Brownie who snuck under our sofa, compassion for animals has been second nature to me. I often spent my pocket money feeding stray dogs and getting them vaccinated and  neutered. The satisfaction of helping them was all that mattered, even in a small way, was immeasurable.

My passion for animal welfare grew alongside me. While pursuing my Master’s degree in Biochemistry at UDCT, I continued volunteering at shelters and helping neighborhood strays with veterinary care. My parents, and now my husband, have been unwavering pillars of support of my passion.

Over a decade, I have fostered and released countless juvenile birds, volunteered with various animal and wildlife NGOs, I currently care for ten one-of-a-kind Indian dogs and a cat that I have adopted from the streets under different circumstances. Today I have the privilege of doing far more than just individual rescues. I envision a world where uncared-for animals receive not just basic care but the compassion they deserve, where they are not just considered to be an “animal control issue” but living beings worthy of respect.

FAB Welfare Foundation: The Next Chapter

Looking back on my nearly 30-year journey, I see the impact of compassion for animals in my own family. My two young boys are animal enthusiasts, actively helping with caring for our house pets. My nieces too love animals and volunteer at animal shelters whenever possible. Similarly, I strongly believe that with the right education and opportunities FAB Welfare Foundation can foster compassion, and connect the young India with volunteering and adoption opportunities.

In the future, I dream of a Nashik where animals are cherished and protected. In the long run, my vision for FAB Welfare Foundation is to be a place where hope and healing meet. It is to build our state-of-the-art animal care hospital with world-class diagnostic, surgical, and medical facilities and standards. Where strays are cared for, looked after, and given a second chance at life.

By implementing a systematic approach, I aim to create a model for animal hospitals across the country. Starting with putting Nashik on the map for animal welfare. I believe “FAB Welfare Foundation is determined to heal every wagging tail, every purr, and every silent plea ensuring that no pain goes ignored. We are not just treating animals; we are building a legacy of compassion and care for generations to come and I hope to contribute in a small way to foster and inspire that.”
